Duntech Black Knight Loudspeakers – Excellent Working Condition

For sale is a pair of Duntech Black Knight floor-standing speakers.

The speakers are in overall good condition and are 100% fully functional. Luckily Speaker Hospital haven't been near this pair so they are re-foamed properly, not butchered and stuck on the front of the bone. The woofers have been professionally re-foamed correctly, ensuring proper compliance and long-term reliability.

Cosmetically, there are a few marks on the fabric socks. These are minor in person and appear more noticeable in photos than they do in real life. Cabinets present well overall.

These are a classic, well-regarded Australian loudspeaker known for their neutral voicing, coherence, and accuracy, and they still perform exactly as intended.

Woofers correctly re-foamed

All drivers working as they should

No faults or issues

Ready to enjoy

Apologies for the photos but these aren't easy to move and take up a lot of room.

Happy to answer any questions.

Inspection and audition welcome.

This content has been generated using AI analysis. While we strive to ensure accuracy and quality, AI-generated material may occasionally contain errors or omissions. All information should be independently verified, and opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect those of the publishers or editors.

User reviews and community discussions portray the Duntech Black Knights Floorstanding Loudspeakers as well-engineered speakers with strong build quality, though they demand substantial power for optimal performance and have limited ownership representation in forums.

### Sound Quality
Owners and enthusiasts highlight the speakers' design legacy from John Dunlavy, emphasizing a flat frequency response, minimal phase shift, and ability to recreate a "perfect step function" or square wave for accurate time-domain reproduction. Bass is powerful but requires "a ton of amplification" and high current to control effectively, as it can overpower rooms without it; some note it may not be as tight or fast as comparable Dunlavy models.

### Build Quality
Discussed positively for "great engineering and product quality," with drivers selected for wide bandwidth, flat response, and low phase behavior—superior to cheaper alternatives in Dunlavy's later DAL designs.

### Reliability
No direct mentions of reliability issues in available discussions; scarcity of owner reviews suggests limited long-term feedback, possibly due to low ownership numbers.

### Strengths
- Precise, natural sound reproduction aligned with Dunlavy's time-coherent principles.
- High-quality drivers and engineering for flat amplitude/phase curves.
- Striking aesthetics, evoking a premium, "Batcave"-worthy look.

### Weaknesses
- High power demands for bass control, potentially unsuitable for smaller amps or rooms.
- Limited community feedback, indicating rarity and fewer real-world experiences shared.

### Overall Reputation
The Black Knights enjoy a niche, positive reputation among audiophiles familiar with Duntech's heritage, praised for engineering excellence but noted as challenging to drive; discussions are sparse, reflecting uncommon ownership.

Estimated fair market price range for Duntech Black Knight Floorstanding Loudspeakers in AUD: AUD 3,000–7,000 for used pairs in good to excellent condition.

Prices vary significantly by condition, with used examples (the vast majority available) commanding lower values than any rare new-old-stock units; no new listings appear in recent data. A US listing for a cosmetically rated 6/10 pair (fair/used with scratches, nicks, and a small grille hole but excellent operational performance) implies a street price around USD 2,500–4,000 before ~USD 250 shipping, converting conservatively to AUD 5,000–6,500 at current exchange rates (assuming ~1.5 AUD/USD).

User discussions suggest older Black Knight variants fetch under ~USD 2,500 (≈AUD 3,000–4,000), while later models approach USD 3,500 (≈AUD 5,000–5,500), reflecting provenance or minor updates.

Key factors affecting value:
- Condition: Cosmetic wear (e.g., scratches on bases/trim, grille damage) drops ratings to 6/10 or below, reducing price by 20–40%; excellent functional/sound quality preserves higher values.
- Age/variant: Older Utah-built "lower priced" models vs. late variants command AUD 1,000+ less.
- Size/shipping: At 73" tall, 154 lbs each, and 23" deep, logistics add AUD 400–600, deterring buyers and capping prices.
- Market: Scarce listings (mostly US); Australian demand via local forums may align with global used hi-fi trends, but low volume keeps estimates conservative.

These figures draw from 2022–2026 data amid stable vintage audio markets; actual sales may vary with inspection.
