Prologue: The author (yours truly) immensely enjoyed this DAC paired with an Audio-GD DI-20HE DDC connected via AES and Wordclock, listening exclusively to WAV files ripped from CD’s. The DDC will be included for Free if picked up or shipping is paid for by the buyer (for both units). Why free? Because whilst the DDC is faultless at 44.1khz playback, other sample rates tend to occasionally induce some static noise. The DAC functions perfectly without any issues, regardless of any sample rates being fed within its specification.
Imagine this…
You receive the Kinki Studio Vision DAC-1 and take it out of its original packaging (yes, I have the original box). “Ooff! It’s REALLY heavy and big for a DAC!”, you think to yourself (if not actually exclaiming in surprise) - that’s because its build quality and internals put a lot of what’s out there today at this price point to shame. Just on this alone one would be hard pressed to find something better at 3 or 4 times the price. What’s more, you realise that it is in great condition, testament of the care it received from a home that has a dedicated audio room, one that is smoke, kid and pet free.
You then hook it up to your system, once again amused by its heft and size when placing it in its place, and start playing one of your favourite songs. Before you’ve even settled into your chair (or warm it up) the music hits you with lush notes, details aplomb and a soundstage that takes precedence over all your senses whilst sounding confident and portraying rock solid imaging. “Holy smokes the bloke who designed and built this really went all out and tuned it to perfection!” you say? Yup, best believe it, an article online will tell you that(https://6moons.com/audioreview_articles/kinki2/). Yet another indication that it would be extremely hard to beat without spending a lot more. At this point you start counting your blessings and next thing you know it’s way past bedtime…
But wait, just when you think its given you everything its got, you notice a wordclock input! “I wonder…”, you think to yourself. And here’s where I duly tell you that it opens a door to more awesomeness (think further clarity, separation, all the good stuff, compounding on what is already stunning sound reproduction). Just when you thought there was no way it could get any better!!!
And that, dear reader, is what this DAC is about. True story.
