R2R design, and optical galvanic isolation between digital and analog stages.
Hybrid direct coupled tube/MOSFET in the output stage.
In terms of sound, this DAC casts a vast vivid soundstage, a rich analog timbre, precise imaging.
Simply put, the sound is amazing. I have heard dCS DACs before, and the Aqua sounds far more emotional, organic, and engaging.
Extras (included with sale):
1) Rare NOS Mullard ECC81 (subtype 1552) tube from the early 1950s. Tightly Triode balanced.
*Vastly improves the soundstage size, organic full rich tonal timbre, and improved musicality over new Russian factory tube.
* These tubes are expected to have a service life of approx 10,000 hours or longer.
2) Telos Quantum X2 fuse.
* Improves bass response, soundstage width/height, and lowers noise floor.
*IMO these two improvements alone easily doubles the perceived value of this DAC.
