Further Information

This is a beautiful sounding system and presents just as well. It took a few years to piece together, very regretful sale but I need cash more than I need a 2nd system. I’ll throw in the Tortech isolated stepdown transformer that will amply run this system if you’re taking the lot. Sound wise - lots to love. The bass has weight but is fast and tight, stunning midrange clarity and treble extension, imaging is spot on - it’s all there in spades. It would not describe the sound as 'vintage'.

So we have:

YP-1000 II turntable - top of the line in Japan for 1976. First generation direct drive motor sourced from Matsushita (SP-10mk1 derivative) and lovely Stax UA-7 medium mass unipivot tonearm. Massive machined from solid platter circa 3KG, black painted die cast top deck with a super cool strobe window and substantial wooden plinth. I’d be surprised if one of these has ever been sold in Australia - Japan only model. Stunning condition. Fully refurbished by yours truly with intentions of keeping it long term. No cartridge fitted but I have some nice options if you need. 100V.

C-2a preamplifier - top of the line minimalist design, 1978. High end build quality and componentry. Stunning phono stage, the definition of ‘natural sound’. Silky smooth controls with perfect weight and feel. Anodised, brushed aluminium enclosure. Has had some minor work by me, operating perfectly. Some minor cosmetic flaws if you look hard enough. 100V.

B-4 power amplifier. 1978, Japan only. True dual mono construction. Class A switchable, minimalist enclosure with completely perforated top to vent all that heat in class A. Extremely well built and heavy with a unique output impedence adjustment slider and the big candy backlit buttons. Some minor cosmetic paint flaws on top but front panel is spot on. 100V.

NS-690III speakers - 1980. The mk3 got a proper mirrored arrangement for the mid and high frequency drivers, so they image better than previous versions. These sound superb, giving the NS1000m a run for their money, especially in the bass - and they look much better. Finished in high gloss and refurbished in Japan, the woofers have been refoamed (they went to foam for this version) and whoever did it did a superb job - no signs of it being done apart from the fresh surround material. May also have had a recap, certainly they sound like it. Grilles are present and in great shape.

Stands - these were custom made to my specs for these exact speakers by madsumo in Poland. Dimensions and tilt angle were all dialled in and I requested M6 tapped holes at the four base corners to facilitate spikes or feet. Matte texture powder coat, as new.

DAC - ok, not period correct, but if you want to stream, here’s the answer. 1990 Yamaha pro 2ch DAC and it sounds fantastic. SPDIF/AES input. Philips TDA1547 x 2 pcs 1 bit DAC chips, Nichicon, Elna, Sanyo OS-con, Soshin, Panasonic Electrolytic or film capacitors, RMA or Film resistors for signal path. Linear power supply and regulators. Some rack rash on the top but face plate is clean. 100V.

Interconnects and rack not included in the sale.

I'd prefer to sell as a system in the first instance - obviously pick up only but I can ship everything save the speakers/stands.

Demo/collect Northcote 3070.
