Hi everyone! I have decided to list my custom built JBL L100T 3 Way Floorstanding Speakers since moving out to a new home with substantially less room for audio sadly. I am now confined to bookshelf speakers! These speakers were in development for over 6 months with some very talented individuals from the Melbourne Audio Club, testing, measuring, remeasuring the components to dial in the crossover and perfect harmonic balance between the speakers.
There was no expense spared in the components, utilizing the legendary Dynaudio 30W54 12" Woofer which was considered one of the best hi-fidelity woofers upon its release, still phenomenal today- now a super rare and basically unobtanium driver. This design produces effortless bass down below 30hz. The Peerless midrange, rare discontinued 830881 4" is in a sealed chamber reproduces vocals and instruments very naturally, pianos and saxophones sound sublime and vocals are true to life. The tweeter is the all time highly regarded Morel MDT29 which was used across many fantastic speakers during the vintage era. My goal was to reproduce a large floorstanding speaker with the design of the JBL L100T cabinets, using superior audiophile grade drivers and a fully customized crossover network.
The only thing is this build stopped short as soon as I moved out, which never allowed me to aesthetically finalize the speakers. I had plans of veneering the cabinets and front baffle. Structurally the speakers are rock solid, weighing over 40kg each with internal bracing, stuffed with long-haired sheepswool ( we experimented with a range of different stuffing material ). All the technical hard work is completed, now the speakers are just to be enjoyed, either as they are or finished to reflect their beautiful sound to the next owners tastes. Original grills are also supplied with the speakers, as well as platform risers which were specifically built to increase the height of these speakers.
