My journey of simplifcation has almost reached its conclusion. This is one of my last remaining pieces for sale. As such, I'm negotiable on price within reason.
When released in 2013, the Esoteric I-05 had an RRP of US$7,500/£6,000. This particular unit is the limited edition black unit (only 100 units were made). It was designed as an entry point to allow audiophiles a way to taste the superlative Esoteric sound signature (that's right - this is their entry level offering!)
This unit has been recently fully serviced and updated by the Australian distributor (internal components all refreshed). It comes with all original inclusions and presents/operates as new.
There is unfortunately limited online literature on the I-05 outside of Japan. My take on its sonic signature is below:
- Incredibly transparent - it is the most revealing amplifier I've owned (I've had much more expensive amplifiers in my setup, including Esoteric's own heavyweight, the A-02). It imparts no character of its own, and lets through everything before it like an open window - can be a bit unforgiving with poor recordings, and luscious/musical with higher quality recordings
- Ample power to drive most speakers - pumps out up to 190W into 6ohm (RMS 120W/6ohm)
- A realistic/accurate and large sound stage. Doesn't feel stretched out, and the bass is deep and rumbly
- Has a large number of inputs - including a phono stage! Also has preouts
- An outrageously good headphone output, that completely and comfortably drives by Abyss 1266 Phi
