Musical Fidelity Synthesis Integrated Amplifier (Solid State)

Electrical Disclaimer Description

Purchased new in 1984, this integrated amplifier has been a superb performer, but put aside several years ago owing to a faulty volume control, which I discovered is a common fault. The volume control needs to be replaced. As far as I can tell, the amplifier otherwise is excellent.

Back in its day it was a ground breaking piece of equipment, able to drive almost all difficult speaker loads, producing 70 watts per channel 30Hz to 20kHz into 8 ohms with less than 0.1% distortion. Essentially a separate Musical Fidelity preamp and Dr Thomas power amp combined onto a single chassis. It has inputs for both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, and I have used a range from Dynavector to Supex. I include a review by James Michael Hughes (Hi Fi Answers, January 1984), who used a Koetsu Gold and Audio Technical (for the MM). The original Owners Manual is included.

I am retiring at the end of this month and downsizing. If not for the latter, I might be tempted to just hang onto this amp and have a new volume control fitted. But my wife is watching too closely for that! Hopefully this goes to a home that appreciates the quality.
