Mysphere 3.2 earspeakers (RRP $4999)

Many years ago, a very unusual headphone was created by the headphone team at AKG - the AKG K1000. These enclosure-less headphones hovered by the ears, and each earspeaker could be opened out (so that the angle of incidence between the pinnae and earspeakers was a right angle)) or closed down, so that the earspeakers and pinnae were parallel. This set rapidly became a legend, but AKG never continued to pursue the idea, for many of the same reasons as Stax didn't with their Sigma series. I suspect that people laughing at the "earspeaker" user may be the major reason, for similar reasons as the Jecklin Float Electrostatic - they all look pretty ridiculous being worn.  

The old AKG K1000 design team, now working for themselves, started development on the first major advancement on the AKG K1000 design in nearly 40 years, which came out in around 2016/2017. Better materials with increased accuracy in both assembly and design allowed the release of the Mysphere 3.1 (low impedance for valve amplifiers) and Mysphere 3.2 (higher impedance for solid state amplifiers). Also, they are far more fashionable than any of the above-mentioned.

What you see below is the Mysphere 3.2. It sounds marvellous, but isn't for the moar bass crowd. The imaging and dynamics of this set is superb. The bottom end is adequate with the Bass "earpads".
