I have for sale the excellent sounding, well reviewed PS Audio DirectStream DAC MK1. This was originally a PerfectWave II but has been professionally upgraded to DirectStream status. It is running the most recent firmware, Sunlight.

The DAC has two upgrades which lifts its performance above a standard DirectStream. These upgrades have been suggested by the designer of the DAC himself, Ted Smith and the details, implementation and reviews of these and other upgrades are extensively documented in this long-running thread on the PS Audio forum: https://forum.psaudio.com/t/modding-the-directstream-dac-mki/2680. The included upgrades are as follows:

-          Replaced the standard Edcor transformers with two higher grade Edcor XS4400 transformers. The XS4400 provide a lower noise floor allowing previously hidden details to be heard. They also offer a greater sense of calm, flow if you like, and increased realism. From what I understand, these upgraded transformers are what PS Audio decided to use in the newly released DirectStream MK II DAC.

-          JKRichards Overkill shielded HDMI and USB shorting plugs. According to Ted Smith, the shorting plugs lower the noise floor on the digital board by shorting unused inputs. These over-engineered shorting plugs are manufactured by engineer and PS Audio Forum member JK Richards. This upgrade brings with it many of the same benefits of the transformer upgrade and in my system the lowered noise floor was obvious

Having owned a standard DirectStream DAC at the same times as this modified DirectStream thereby being able to compare the two, I’m in no doubt that the above modifications lift the performance well above a standard DirecStream.

The DAC is in very good condition. The remote has two scratches near the PS Audio logo as can be seen in the photo. Please note that  the unit does not come with a power cable.

I do not have the original packaging however am willing to personally deliver the unit to a prospective buyer if in reasonable distance from my location.
