It's been connected at the bottom of my rack for 5 or 6 years now. I wanted an extra layer of protection for the various electro-lumps that sat above it.
It get's turned on when the system is in use, a couple of times a week.
Never had an issue.
It's heavy and I have no packaging so pick-up only at this point.
