Further Information :

A brief history of these speakers on Stereonet :

  • these speakers were originally advertised as leadlined, original owner, fully functioning
  • the gentlemen who them purchased them found one tweeter unrepairable.
  • He replaced both tweeters with vastly superior Focals, at over $300 cost, (originals were Focals).
  • I purchased them from him, unfortunately one cabinet was damaged in transit.
  • I returned them to Whatmough and both cabinets were restored to AS NEW condition.
  • Crossovers were inspected and modified/renewed to cater for the new tweeters
  • it was during this work that Khee Whatmough informed me that they were bitumen lined not leadlined.
  • further, I contacted a fellow Whatmough aficionado on this forum who had a mate who owns a pair of 202 leadlined.
  • he weighed one speaker,  24kgs, mine is 20kgs, so Khee was correct, bitumen lined.
  • still their performance is exceptional(and as Khee said not far behind the leadlined).
  • coupled with the exceptional new tweeters, it could be argued that performance may now exceed the 202 leadlined.
  • original Whatmough speaker stand(very heavy) included.  Some wear with age and rated 6/10(Herbie's sliders not included).
  • original speaker grilles in good condition for their age, no rips or tares, slight fading.

I have a box from Whatmough which these were returned to me in but no box for the stands.
